Ian began his career as an engineer in the Royal Navy before joining the fire and security industry in the late 1980s. He worked in a number of companies culminating in being the Chief Executive of the Fire Industry Association (FIA) from 2015 to 2026 .
Under his leadership, the FIA grew from around six hundred and fifty members to over double that number, becoming Europe's largest fire protection trade association.
Ian sits as a Magistrate, serves as a Parish Councillor, and is a trustee of a children's cancer charity. He lives in Hampshire.
